Going Live - test, validate and go live

Validation, online testing and data inspection

For online surveys, testing and validation are important, particularly if routing and data logic are being used.

You should test all online surveys using the ‘Online Testing’ option. We recommend that you use private or InPrivate browsing mode to ensure that data and cookies are cleared with each test.

The survey monitoring tools allow you to inspect survey data as it comes in. Our preferred practice is one window open with the survey being tested, and one window with the monitoring on so that the data can be inspected as it is generated. F5 will refresh the data monitor page for each questionnaire page.

Dressing the survey

Alongside data validation, we also encourage ‘dressing’ the survey, particularly for more modern and more visual questionnaires. While the default options in Cxoice are tried and tested, designers may want to improve or alter the look of individual pages.

Dressing includes setting logos and survey headers and colours to the housestyle. But can involve using the CSS options to ensure that the layouts and images look as good as possible, particularly with visual question types. CSS can be set page-by-page in the PageBreak question, or by uploading a survey specific CSS sheet that is applied on top of the standard CSS stylesheet.

Dressing should also include testing with different devices and browsers.

The CSS in the pagebreak question is included inline in the page, so each page can be tweaked to look different. Cxoice display follows a strictly layered hierarchical or semantic page structure with ‘hooks’ to allow for the selection of each part of a question without needing to modify the HTML of the page.
