Questionnaire Creator - Speed tips
Cxoice was designed to be easier and faster than tranditional survey scripting. Consequently, Cxoice has a few short cuts and hints and tips that will make writing questionnaires faster.
a. When entering a list for the codes or grid elements, pressing ‘Tab’ on the last entry will automatically create a new entry, so you can just continue typing.
b. When using the Questionnaire Creator, you can paste a list of items. Select the last option on the codelist or grid and press Ctrl-V. The Questionnaire Creator will recognise that you are trying to paste in a list, and will automatically generate the new entry lines.
c. The editor continues from the last page, allowing you to edit and try without needing to go through the questionnaire each time. It also remembers answers, so it will do routing and text substitution.
d. You can drag and drop questions in the Editor View to change the order. Drag the question name to the new location to move it as an alternative to using the Up and Down arrows.
e. If you use the Print/Copy option you can use Select-All, Copy, Paste (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V) to copy and paste the questionnaire from the web-browser into Word or other editor or system.
The Select All, Copy and Paste options are also available when reviewing data in the Survey Monitor to paste data straight into Excel or a spreadsheet.
f. To test the questionnaire from a particular starting point use the [⌕] at each question.
g. In Test/Preview mode the questionnaire will automatically cycle through the questions once the end has been released.
h. Online Cxoice Account holders can run simulated data through the questionnaire, and even chart the simulated data, in order to view and test the whole survey process. Simulation can be done at random, or using AI to generated simulated data based on different AI-generated personas.
Side discussion: Why Cxoice uses Question Types instead of a generic ‘question’ with options
Users of other survey systems sometimes expect to see a generic questions with a lot of settings or options such as settings for things like ‘exclusive’ codes or filter routes.
In Cxoice we use pre-specified question types to capture the use of different settings automatically which, we believe makes creating questionnaires a quick and easy process, so you can see what you are building. You can also instantly change the question type without retyping. For example a multiple question can become a Multiple with None if you need an exclusive ‘None of these’ option to be added to the list.
By using a variety of specialist question types, it makes it easier to set up questions, while still giving options for more complex question types without overloading the question designer and means it is easier for non-experts to build the questions.
For instance, Cxoice offers options for different types of display for question types, and different types of actions based on question type. For instance, single as a list, in blocks/buttons, as a drop-down, and with a ‘reveal’ which allows for roll-out style questions when a supplementary question is shown based on an answer.
We recommend getting familiar with the different question types, and trying them out. In a design-to-screen system, it is easy to try and test and so to choose the best option for the questions you want to ask.
We do also have advanced questions (eg Conjoint and Web-overlay questions), which do require some expertise in use. But our principle is to make it easy for non-specialists, while also having the power for much more advanced forms of questions than are typically available in traditional questionnaire software.
