Questionnaire Creator - Speed tips
A short list of hints and tips that will make writing questionnaires faster.
a. When entering a list for the codes or grid elements, pressing ‘Tab’ on the last entry will automatically create a new entry, so you can just continue typing.
b. When using the Questionnaire Creator, you can paste a list of items. Select the last option on the codelist or grid and press Ctrl-V. The Questionnaire Creator will recognise that you are trying to paste in a list, and will automatically generate the new entry lines.
c. The editor continues from the last page, allowing you to edit and try without needing to go through the questionnaire each time.
d. You can drag and drop questions to change the order. Drag the question name to the new location to move it.
You can also use the [*] to test the questionnaire from different points.
Discussion: Question types versus a generic ‘question’ with options
Users of other survey systems sometimes expect to see a generic questions with a lot of settings or options such as settings for things like ‘exclusive’ codes or filter routes.
Cxoice is designed to make creating questionnaires a quick and easy process, so you can see what you are building.
In Cxoice we use pre-specified question types to capture the use of different settings automatically. You can also instantly change the question type without retyping. For example a multiple question can become a Multiple with None if you need an exclusive ‘None of these’ option to be added to the list.
By using a variety of specialist question types, it makes it easier to set up questions, while still giving options for more complex question types without overloading the question designer.
For instance, Cxoice offers options for different types of display for question types, and different types of actions based on question type. For instance, single as a list, in blocks/buttons, as a drop-down, and with a ‘reveal’ which allows for roll-out style questions when a supplementary question is shown based on an answer.
We recommend getting familiar with the different question types, and trying them out. In a design-to-screen system, it is easy to try and test and so to choose the best option for the questions you want to ask.
