Derived multiple question for reports

Many charts and tables require additional calculations or summary variables. In Cxoice reports these are normally created using the ‘Derived multiple’ question type.

In a derived multiple each code is calculated individually allowing for complex summary tables to be calculated.

In this example the NPS score is summarised into Detractors, Passive or Promoters.

For a derived multiple we recommend that you use a name that is not in the data extract or questionnaire itself.

In charting, derived variables are displayed in a different colour to signal that they are derived, and not direct primary data.

The name derived multiple is used because often summary variables involve adding extra lines, and so have items that overlap, making them equivalent to multiple variables. For instance adding a line for Total agree or Total disagree while also showing the individual agree-disagree scale points.
